Leaving an old life for another. Nica departing Seattle.
This was such an amazing session. Documentary style photography is something that I truly love and cherish. I get to direct less and watch more. I move with the emotions and the flow in the room, with you and capture what I feel inclined to capture. I got to document Nica leaving this space, leaving this city and was welcomed into their home and final sanctuary here in Seattle as they depart and say goodbye.
I love being able to be apart of peoples lives in such close and intimate ways. Especially when they are such close friends. Nica and I have now done several sessions together, their last being pregnancy photos, come back in four years you know. Photos are such a special way to mark major moments in life. The good times and the bad, life transitions will always happen and what a way to celebrate than to document.
I have some instances where I have photographed some rather hard and personal times in peoples lives. Maybe not necessarily times they would want to remember. But I know for some people, those moments captured were truly special and there is comfort in having those photos. Life is cyclical, and there will always be the highs and lows. We get so accustomed to documenting the highs and that we lose sight of the in between. Those moments where we might have been our strongest.
Never forget about documenting those moments.
